There's a song sung by Rod Stewart with the lyrics "I wish I knew then what I know now," and I think that line exemplifies my life. Unfortunately, I'm a slow learner, so sometimes (many times) I have to repeat a mistake before I learn from it.
When I was a little girl, I really didn't play with dolls much. But one day, I was on the porch rocking my doll. Like the boy in "Rocking Horse Winner," I got carried away and started rocking madly. I rocked right off the edge of our porch which was about 2 or 3 feet off the ground. Unhurt, I got up, dragged the rocker back onto the porch, and did the same thing again. The third time was a charm; I learned to turn my chair around and not rock off the porch.
I've had many other experiences as I grew older that taught me a lesson, and some of them had to be repeated. Sigh.
Today, though, all I want to think about is the future. I've waited long enough to shed the figurative chains that hold me back from doing the things I want to do, living the life I want to live, and going where I want to go. Starting now, my goal is to be me — unbound and free.
Here, I'll record my thoughts on life, books, travel, and other things — as noted above, whatever strikes my fancy. I invite you to comment, or not, as you please. Comments will not be censored unless they become ugly. Then, they will be deleted. Of course, I don't expect to have to do that.
Today's Bible verse
"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."
Here's the whole Edward Abbey blessing
“Benedicto: May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. May your rivers flow without end, meandering through pastoral valleys tinkling with bells, past temples and castles and poets towers into a dark primeval forest where tigers belch and monkeys howl, through miasmal and mysterious swamps and down into a desert of red rock, blue mesas, domes and pinnacles and grottos of endless stone, and down again into a deep vast ancient unknown chasm where bars of sunlight blaze on profiled cliffs, where deer walk across the white sand beaches, where storms come and go as lightning clangs upon the high crags, where something strange and more beautiful and more full of wonder than your deepest dreams waits for you -- beyond that next turning of the canyon walls.”Please Follow and Share
